Sam's Nursery Makeover Before and After

I've wanted a fun nursery for a long time. I really wanted to do a soft grey for the walls in Sam's room with white trim and a few punches of color. Here was what the previous homeowners painted the room: Don't really know what to call this shade of green....?
I really wish I had taken better before pictures, so you could understand just how heinous this room was. It had beautiful woodwork and hardwood floors. That's where the okay things ended. The white paint on the woodwork looked dirty and old and it was even chipping in some places.
Who doesn't love dusty old bent up blinds?

icky....

A little Sammy thrown in there for your enjoyment.

Now for the AFTER photo's:

My red glider by the window. I LOVE this chair. I've wanted a chair like that ever since I had Clara. I found this at Babinski Baby in SLC just a couple days before we moved. I fell in love with it. Unbelievably comfortable- and you can pull the lever on the side and it reclines. Heaven! I also like looking out the window while I nurse Sam.

And we ripped down the blinds. I found some cute Dark blue with white polka dot curtains at PBK that had blackout liners on them.

I found Blue Glass knobs at Anthropologie before we even had Sam. We've had this armoire for years. We bought it for Clara and I painted it pink. Then I painted it white while I was pregnant with Edie. Then I painted it black in our basement here in WA, because I thought it would look nice with the blue knobs.

I had some left over knobs so I put it on the closet doors in Sam's room. There are another set of two doors directly next to these. It is a HUGE closet! I love the built-in's and woodwork in older homes.

In the corner I have Sam's changing table. I have a big chunk of blank wall I want to fill in with either pictures or these alphabet letters I found on pinterest :

Sam's room has three large window's. We repainted a coat of white paint on all of them. What a pain.

I left the old fashioned door knobs on.

I tried to match the curtain rod's to the door knobs.

We painted the walls a soft grey. It's Notre Dame by Valspar. I bought seven paint samples before I settled on this one.

I put glow in the dark stars above his crib. We think he likes them.

And the room's occupant. Cutest part of the room!

He enjoys going commando.

Well there you have it. Sam's nursery. There are still several decorating projects I would like to do. But for now I am thrilled to not look at those nasty acid green walls one more day.

I have many more home makeover projects I need to post. Stay tuned......

Three Years ago Today....

I can remember perfectly three years ago today. It was a beautiful spring day. I was incredibly pregnant. I had given birth to Clara two weeks early, so I thought for sure I would have my second baby two weeks early. No such luck. I had been getting more and more antsy and anxious to give birth and meet my new baby. John was home on spring break from school, I had been hoping to have our baby so he would be home to just enjoy that sweet new baby phase with me. I had given up that I would have her that day. I was tired and didn't feel like cooking so we ran out to Cafe Rio and got our favorites. I had been ravenous and couldn't wait to chow down when we got home, but all of a sudden on the ride home my stomach didn't feel quite right. I couldn't stomach the thought of even one bite! I was so uncomfortable and fidgety the whole evening. We watched an entire disc of 30 Rock, but I just couldn't relax. Several hours later we were packing our bags to head to the hospital. I remember thinking it was the 17th and I would most likely have a St. Patty's day baby.We got to the hospital and at 5:30 AM and they broke my water. I was dilated to 3 cm. By 6:10 AM I had my darling Edie in my arms. It was truly an excruciating forty minutes! But once she was here I remember just looking at her and falling so immediately in love with her- it honestly took my breath away. I hated when they even took her to weigh her and measure her. What a wonderful day it was. We debated the entire two days in the hospital what to name her. We originally had Ruby and Matilda picked out. We had also thrown around the idea of Isla or maybe Madeline. But once we had her, she was our Edie. I can't believe its been THREE years! It seems like yesterday we found out we would have two little girls and the thought just warmed my heart. It still warms my heart. When they're not fighting or screaming at each other anyway.....

Wee Man is on the Move!

About three weeks ago my little man began dragging his body around the house. My life just got a lot harder.

He was under my feet while making lunch the other day when all of a sudden I noticed he wasn't there anymore. So I walked out of the kitchen, I looked in the dining room, not there. I walked down the hall and searched our master bedroom, not there either. I walked down the other hall and looked into the bathroom on the way to his room. Nowhere to be seen. I started to panic a little. I walked back past the bathroom in the hall and noticed these little legs- backing out from under the cabinets in the bathroom!! My little stinker had crawled in the bathroom and had hidden under the cabinets! When I pulled him out completely he had dog hair and dust bunnies on his face- along with a giant grin.

He has gotten SO big all of a sudden! He weighs about a pound more than Edie did at a year and nearly 3 pounds more than Clara did. He's huge! He doesn't really look as chubby as Edie did, but he's a much taller and more solid baby. He's just my little tank!

He is VERY independent too. He INSISTS on feeding himself. My new (and rather nuerotic if you ask me) pediatrician told me that they are doing more and more research on childhood obesity and have found that the sooner a baby can feed himself the better, because he can control his food intake and listen to his natural hunger better. She said anything you could squash between your hands he can eat, which is good because he still doesn't have a single tooth. His preferences include:

  • Steamed Broccoli

  • Banana's

  • Blueberries- cut in half. VERY messy...

  • Lightly steamed spinach

  • Baked apples with a little cinnamon

  • Cheerio's

  • Shredded Cheese is probably his favorite

He is a sweetie. He still nurses- but he is getting very very difficult to feed. There doesn't even need to be alot going on a around him- he just wants to go go go! He can't stand just laying there to eat. I can be in a dark quiet boring room and he'll still arch his back to get down and crawl around. It's really stressing me out.

Photo Dump: V-Day and a Warm Day

I am running a little behind- but we did have a rather nice Valentines Day. I got each of the kiddo's a little present. Eden got a pinkalicious T-shirt. She is OBSESSED with Pinkalicious.
I got Clara this cute sweater with the pink ruffle on the bottom.

Sambo got some squishy blocks.

John ended up being at the clinic late. So I got the girlies Happy Meals.

John and I got subway and ate it in bed while we watched The Bachelor. Yup- shameful confession. We love it. It was a good day.

And to the second part of my post: We had a day that was somewhat warm!! It was marvelous! We went outside and enjoyed it!

Go Clara Go!!

(Check out the facial expressions!!)

Sam sat like a little chubby angel and just watched the kids play. I didn't hear a peep out of him. I used my Kelty backpack as a nice little chair for him while were outside.

We also took a little stroll around the neighborhood. Somehow I managed to get lost.... Sam was on my back in the backpack- by the time we got home I thought my back was going to die! Especially since Edie had begged to be carried the last few blocks! Arrgh!
